APCOM is a forum for industrial and research communities working in the mineral industry to share and stimulate the application of computer and operations research technology. The 32nd International Symposium on the Application of Computers and Operations Research in the Mineral Industry, held on March 30th - April 1st, 2005, in Tucson, Arizona, USA, will return to APCOM's origin at the University of Arizona and will showcase the state-of-the-art of industrial applications and emerging technology. APCOM, since its origins in the 1960s, has been heralded as the World’s premier conference for computer applications and operations research in the mineral industry. It is a respected peer-reviewed publication that covers a wide array of topics ranging from geostatistics to data warehousing.

The theme of this symposium focuses on how to mobilize the inherent value in largely underutilized data and information systems. These underutilized sources of data can be analyzed using systems analysis tools for real-time or process-based improvements. Although the use of information systems is the theme of APCOM 2005, the strong history of APCOM covering important topics such as geostatistics and emerging technology remains. In 2005, APCOM as an organization is dawning on a new generation of organizers and attendees that will continue its rich tradition of high-quality peer-reviewed papers that help push the mineral industry’s technology forward.

The book is of special interest to engineers, managers, academics, and researchers in the Mineral Industry, and to Systems and Industrial engineers.
